Description
"Winter in the Salt Flats" [3.5:1]
Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah, USA
1302-4-3281
The Bonneville Salt Flats is a popular tourist destination located about two hours west of Salt Lake City along Interstate 80 on the Utah-Nevada border. This winter scene is not the expected appearance by visitors to the Salt Flats; however during winter, snow melts due to the high salt content, leaving a vast shallow sea. As warmer temperatures come in spring, salt will again crystallize on the surface, leaving a white sea in its place.
This shot was captured along the perimeter of the Salt Flats, where sagebrush and other desert foliage grow abundantly.

Very cool, Chad; how long does "winter" and this great reflection stick around?
Chad Dutson replied:
Thank you! The reflection was actually a surprise -- I surmise it had to do with heavy snowfall this year. Likely the water will stick around until temperatures are warm enough for consistent evaporation.
