"Sunrise Ice Reflection"
Deer Creek, Utah, USA
1302-4-1921 [16:9]
Needless to say, winter sunrises in Utah are cold. This particular morning hovered around 14 degrees F (-10 degrees C). I wandered out onto the thick ice, crossing the lake to a rock island, and settled in for this vantage point. Once the sun cracked over the horizon, the reflective color warmed the skies and ice surface. Eventually the red and pink glow turned orange, then within minutes hardened to distracting light. Thankfully I captured this shot before the color disappeared.
Deer Creek Reservoir is managed by multiple parties, the dam by the Bureau of Reclamation, and the lake by Utah's Division of Parks and Recreation. Each winter the ice freezes over, creating a haven for ice fisherman. Tracks (or trails) criss-cross the ice until the ice thins sufficiently when warming air temperature arrives in late winter and early spring.

Chad, I love this photograph! The colors are great, I love the purple and blue. I think Sunrises are great to capture because no two are exactly alike and it's the first light of morning when the earth seems to be quiet and peaceful. Great job!
