Beetles have been plaguing Utah forests for a couple decades now. This particular forest shows the effects of these little critters, as they take the life out of all the pines in every direction. Notwithstanding the destructive appearance, I wanted to capture the beauty of the area. After the beetles' rampage, light has been able to reach the canyon floor, likely for the first time in hundreds of years, creating new life of grass and wildflowers showing an incredible display of contrast between life and death.
