When visiting the Rockies, fall weather is always unpredictable. On one morning, I arose early and joined fellow photographer, Dustin LeFevre, in Rocky Mountain National Park. Being dark outside and seeing no stars, the evident sign indicated we were greeted with overcast skies. Nevertheless we packed our vehicle and headed into the park. We decided to take another stab at a popular lake, and as we began up the trail our suspicions were confirmed... an overcast sky. A gentle wind turned more into gusts, sending a chill right through all layers of clothing. We pressed on up the trail, arriving lakeside. I setup my tripod, and to my dismay a wind gust seemed to pick up my gear, casting it into the water. I quickly retrieved it, and over the short span of a few seconds, the water had already frozen all around the outside of the camera and lens. I wiped the ice free, setup again, and captured this scene, right as the morning glow slid underneath the cloud cover.
