"Canyonlands Delight"
Dead Horse Point State Park, Utah, USA
Canyonlands National Park overlook from the vantage point at Dead Horse Point State Park near Moab, Utah, with the moon visible. These sheer cliffs drop from 5,940 feet (1,811m) at the plateau, down to 4,500 feet (1,372m), and eventually down to 3,930 feet (1,198m) on the Colorado River. The majestic views are nothing short of spectacular. And thankfully the overcast skies that endured most of the day burned up in time for sunset, bringing out these incredible, rich colors!
Dead Horse Point State Park "is surrounded by sheer cliffs 2,000 feet (610 m) high with only a narrow neck of land 30 yards (27 m) wide connecting the mesa to the main plateau. Thus it was easy for cowboys to simply fence off this narrow neck, and keep rounded up wild horses from running away. Legend has it that one group of horses was inadvertently left fenced in and eventually died of thirst" [source: Wikipedia].
